Sleepless thrills for Taylor clan
|
By Brad Ziemer, Vancouver Sun June 23, 2009
Jay Taylor, dad to Nick and his caddie/brotherJosh, kept family and friends (and a couple of us media types) entertained with some amusing e-mails during the U.S. Open.
The picture to the right is Josh, Nick, Tim Clark and Tim's caddie taken prior to a US Open practice round.
Here is a snippet of one of Jay’s e-mails, which describes what a whirlwind the past week has been for the Taylor clan.
“Well, it has been interesting. Let’s see ... Thursday was rained out and no golf. Friday was 32 holes over 13 hours after being up at 5 in the morning. Saturday four holes after up at 5 in the morning, back to the hotel to sleep a bit, back to the course to warm up and get to the first tee just in time to get soaked in a downpour and not hit a shot.
“Sunday, told to be at the first tee for 7:30, up at 5, get to the course to find out time is changed to 12. Back at the hotel to sleep for two hours, back to the course. Finish the first 18, get in the clubhouse, eat next to Tiger, Phil and Vijay and then have a USGA official come up to say tee time was in 25 minutes off the 10th tee which is a 10-minute shuttle ride.
“The scorecard on the computer probably doesn’t mention any of this. The guys are pretty much exhausted and are looking to sleep in the first chance they get, they just don’t know when. Nick goes from here to Toronto and the rest of us have to get back to work.
“It has been a great week overall and without doubt rich in lifelong memories. Nice way to spend Father’s Day watching your sons read a putt together with thousands of people watching.”
Josh Taylor is a fine golfer in his own right. He just finished his collegiate golf career at the University of Texas-El Paso. When he isn’t watching his sons play golf, Jay Taylor sells real estate for Century 21 in Abbotsford.
